Gift of Hope 18 for 18 Campaign
The number 18 carries great cultural and religious significance around the world. The numerology essence of the number 18 has to do with humanitarianism, independence, and building something of lasting benefit. In the Chinese culture, the number is associated with someone who is going to have great success and prosper. The Hebrew word chai has the value of 18 and means life.
For the Board Members of the Gift of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, and its many recipients, the number 18 has a very personal meaning this year. It was 18 years ago that Hope Friedman, the founder of the Gift of Hope, received her own breast cancer diagnosis. The Board of the Gift of Hope is hoping you will join us in commemorating Hope’s 18th year of being a survivor of breast cancer by donating in multiples of 18 during the month of October.
During her treatment, Hope met and spoke with many women who also were undergoing treatment. Cancer is a non-discriminatory disease and impacts women from all walks of life. While each woman had her own struggles, Hope was stuck by the number of women she met who could not pay their normal monthly bills. Cancer treatment is difficult, and medical care is expensive. Many women are unable to continue working or caring for their families while in treatment. The Gift of Hope was founded in 2004 to help address those needs, and since its inception has directly supported over 1,000 women during their fight against this disease.
Every year the Gift of Hope holds fundraising events in support of its mission. Many of those events are held in October, and this year, due to Covid-19, some events will not take place. This will have a devastating impact on our ability to serve women in need. The economic effects of this pandemic will only make the circumstances of those who receive a cancer diagnosis more dire.
We know that these are difficult times, any donation will be appreciated, and will directly support breast cancer patients in need throughout Florida. It’s a Jewish tradition to give gifts in multiples of 18 as an expression of blessing for a long life. Please help us continue the Gift of Hope’s mission.
